Columbia Missourian Newspaper
November 26, 1975
"If a century farmer visited central Missouri today he might be able to find a familiar old water-powered grist mill but he probably wouldn't be able to grind his grain Changing times have forced most mills to shed their original functions and launch new careers. The Westover Mill in Crawford
County for hr example has served as a packinghouse for nearly 50 years Oak Hill Mill in Crawford County and New Bray's Mill in Miller County await conversion into homes.
New Brays dates back to about 1880. It produced flour until 1930, was used as an ice plant until about 1940 and was then abandoned until Doerhoef purchased it in 1968 Doerhoef says no old machinery remains except a buhrstone, steel wheel and line shaft."

{Above} This photo is of the Brays Mill and is believed to have taken in the early 1900's. It shows many of the original features of the exterior of the mill that have now been updated or changed by previous and current owners.

{Above}  This photo is of the Brays School located up the hill next to the original general store next door to the Mill. This photo was taken some time in the 1840's. The Brays School has sadly been torn down when property owners bought land that the school was located on.

Brays School (historical) is a cultural feature (school) in Miller County. The primary coordinates for Brays School (historical) places it within the MO 65486 ZIP Code delivery area.

{Above} This photo is of Mr. James E. Rowden {1811-1889} and Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Lawson Rowden {1818-1889}. It is unknow when the photos were taken. Mr. and Mrs. Rowden had once owned and operated the Mill.
